Transactional Pricing
How Pricing Works by Channel
Transactional pricing refers to the buy/rent pricing model used on TVOD (Transactional Video on Demand) channels. This article explains how pricing works across different channels distributed by Filmhub, and what control filmmakers have over setting or suggesting prices for featured and scheduled releases.
Each month, Filmhub works closely with a curated slate of titles through our Featured Releasing program. These titles, typically acquired exclusively, receive a more hands-on release approach, including strategic release planning, marketing coordination, and advanced platform and pricing strategies.
Featured Releasing is one of several ways Filmhub brings stories to audiences. Every title Filmhub works with benefits from our global channel network and distribution infrastructure. Featured titles simply receive an additional layer of focused attention designed to maximize their release impact.
Apple TV
- Default pricing: $9.99 purchase / $4.99 rental (HD).
- Filmhub has full control over pricing for Apple TV within Apple's preset tier structure and can update Apple TV pricing at any time by redelivering updated metadata.
- Apple uses a tiered pricing system, with available tiers varying by territory.
- For the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia: Apple offers a more flexible rental tier structure for both rental and purchase with more detailed pricing options that decay over time based on how long it has been since the initial release date.
- For all other countries: Titles are classified as either New Release or Library, and rental price decays over time based on how long it has been since the initial release date.
- The release date used for pricing is pulled from the title's IMDb page. If no IMDb page exists, it defaults to January 1st of the production year.
Amazon
- Default pricing: $9.99 purchase / $4.99 rental (HD) submitted as a suggestion for .
- Filmhub can suggest pricing for Amazon, but Amazon holds the right to change the pricing upon publication.
- Generally, Amazon listens to pricing requests, but there is no guarantee.
- If a title does not perform at a given price point, Amazon may reduce the price on their own.
- Amazon also runs user-specific promotional discounts that can make a title appear cheaper to certain viewers. These are funded by Amazon and do not affect the filmmaker's payout.
- Note: Canada is not an available TVOD territory for episodic/series content on Amazon. Only movies are available on the Canadian Amazon storefront for TVOD.
Other Transactional Channels
- Some channels reserve the right to adjust transactional pricing for buy/rent.

- Filmhub recommends at least 75 days from QC Title Pass to the Scheduled Release Date.
- There is approximately a 12-week timeframe from licensed to going live for standard titles.
