Understanding Avails and Rights

Avails define when and how a title can be licensed on your channel, covering license types, territories, and time windows. This article explains how to read avails and why a title may or may not be available to you.

What Are Avails?

Avails (short for "availabilities") describe when and how a title can be licensed. They define the license types a title is available for, the territories it covers, and the time window during which it can be distributed.

You can view a title's avails on its title page by clicking the Avails tab. See Licensing Title Page for a walkthrough of the title page.

License Types

Filmhub uses three primary license types. A title may be available for one, two, or all three.

AVOD (Advertising-Based Video On Demand)

The title is available for free to viewers, with revenue generated through ad impressions. Examples include Tubi, Pluto TV, and Peacock Free.

Note: On AVOD channels, royalties are tied to ad impressions, not views. If no ads are served during a view (for example, due to low ad fill rate), no revenue is generated for that view.

SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand)

The title is available to viewers via a paid subscription. Examples include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Peacock Premium.

TVOD (Transactional Video On Demand)

The title is available for individual purchase or rental. Examples include Amazon Prime Video (buy/rent), Apple TV, and Google Play. TVOD avails are managed independently from SVOD and AVOD.

Territory Availability

The Avails tab on a title page shows which territories the title is available in.

  • Green countries (with a checkmark) — rights are available for those territories
  • Red countries (with an X) — those territories are excluded from the rights

If your channel operates in a territory shown in red, the title will show as Not Available for your account.

Territory availability is set by the title's rights holder. Filmhub cannot expand rights beyond what the producer has granted.

Start and End Dates

Each avail record includes a start date and, optionally, an end date.

  • Start date — the earliest date the title can begin being licensed and distributed
  • End date — the date the license expires; after this date, the title will no longer be deliverable and may need to be removed from your platform

If a title you have licensed shows as Removed, it may be because the rights window has ended. Contact your account manager if you are unsure.

Why a Title May Show as Not Available

A title may appear in the catalog but show as Not Available for your channel for several reasons:

  • Your channel operates in a territory the title does not have rights for
  • The title's license type does not match your channel's format (e.g., the title is TVOD-only and your channel is AVOD)
  • The title is in an exclusive window with another channel
  • The rights window has not started yet (future start date)
  • The rights window has ended

If you believe a title should be available but is not, contact your account manager or email channel-operations@filmhub.com.
