To determine the technical video stream quality, Filmhub uses the term Compression Rate. It is calculated by dividing the pixels per second (pixel rate) by the bits per second (bit rate):
Filmhub specifies one maximum accepted Compression Rate per video codec. Videos with a higher Compression Rate will fail listing review.
As a simple reference, the SD, HD and 4K columns show the rule-of-thumb minimum bitrate or codec variant requirements.
Example Calculations
💡 Resolution refers to the stored pixel width and height, not displayed, for anamorphic (non-square) pixel aspect ratios.
1080p, 20 Mbps
SD (PAL), 5 Mbps

Inherent Compression Rates of Common Codecs
Apple ProRes
Apple ProRes has inherent, non-adjustable bitrates, depending on the ProRes variant, resolution, and frame rate. There are various variants including ProRes 422, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444, and ProRes XQ (see also About Apple ProRes on Apple Support).
🛑 Please note: Apple ProRes 422 LT and Proxy are not accepted. ProRes 4444, 4444 XQ, and RAW – while high quality – are not ideal because of unnecessarily high storage needs.
Notes to below:
-
Real-world bitrate is based on empirical, local encoding tests with Apple Compressor. Our results showed 80 - 89% of the Target Bitrate of the Apple White Paper.
-
Compression Rate uses the Real-World bitrate with a 15% tolerance

Avid DNxHR
Avid DNxHR bitrate depends on resolution. Therefore, SQ & up is accepted in all resolutions.

Avid DNxHD
Avid DNxHD bitrates are independent of resolution. Therefore, each resolution has different DNxHD variant requirements.
